We’re hiring
Hi. Our company, White Whale Web Services of Oakland, is seeking a Web designer to help us keep up with an increasing volume of work while maintaining our heartfelt commitment to thoughtful, handmade design and general awesomeness.
We are looking for a designer with a refined aesthetic sensibility—who doesn’t need a computer to make art—with a good understanding of CSS and Web standards. Although familiarity with code and back end development might be an asset, it is by no means required; this is primarily a design position, and we’ll be evaluating candidates primarily on their design portfolios. We are open to talking with print designers, and would love to see portfolios including both Web and print work.
Almost all White Whale’s work is in higher education (our clients include Brown, Duke, UC Berkeley, Lewis & Clark, Kenyon College, and many more), so some familiarity with that environment could be helpful. In particular, we’re looking for a designer with strong ideas, who can push our work in new directions and keep it fresh as our company grows. Designers we like include Miguel Ripoll, Khoi Vinh, and Jason Santa Maria, for what it’s worth, although that shouldn’t be construed as limiting.
This is intended to be a full time position; however, it might make sense (for both you and us) to begin on a contract/freelance trial basis and see how it goes. We’re looking for Bay Area applicants only. We offer a competitive salary and full benefits. We welcome the underrepresented and the overeducated.
